Abstract
This article assesses the dynamics of green cover in the Mirzo Ulugbek and Yangihayot districts of Tashkent city under conditions of climate change and urbanization using the NDVI index. NDVI is a widely used vegetation index in remote sensing studies, allowing the assessment of vegetation condition, density, and spatial distribution. The study uses Sentinel-2 satellite imagery from 2020, 2022, and 2024, along with GIS technologies, because its 10-meter spatial resolution enables evaluation of green cover at the urban district level. Scientific literature emphasizes that green areas play an important role in regulating the urban microclimate, reducing land surface temperature, and mitigating the Urban Heat Island effect. The analysis results showed that the level of green cover in the Mirzo Ulugbek and Yangihayot districts is unevenly distributed spatially, and that noticeable differences in NDVI classes were observed during the period 2020–2024. The obtained results have scientific and practical significance for planning urban green infrastructure, preserving existing green areas, and developing climate change adaptation measures.
