Abstract
This article presents the results of a study on the effect of phosphorus fertilizer rates on leaf number and leaf yield of the medicinal plant Stevia rebaudiana. The experimental findings demonstrated that increasing the rate of phosphorus fertilizer application led to an increase in both leaf number and overall leaf yield of stevia. This indicates a relatively high demand of the plant for phosphorus nutrition. The paper also provides information on the biological characteristics, economic importance, and potential uses of stevia. The highest leaf yield (32.0 c/ha) was recorded in the treatment where phosphorus fertilizers were applied at a rate of 175 kg/ha. The yield increase amounted to 14.4 c/ha compared to the control treatment and 5.7 c/ha compared to the treatment without phosphorus application. The obtained results confirm the importance of optimizing phosphorus fertilizer rates in the cultivation of medicinal stevia.
