Abstract

This article examines ways to mitigate the environmental and socioeconomic problems of the Southern Aral Sea region. One of the most pressing problems in the region is progressive soil salinization, which dramatically reduces the productivity of traditional agriculture and threatens food security. Pathways to transition to salt-tolerant crop production and the implementation of adaptive agricultural technologies are discussed.
